Looked at a range of options including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DSpace<\/li>\n<li>Vernon (Museums system)<\/li>\n<li>Calm\/Adlib (commercial system)<\/li>\n<li>Archivists&#8217; Toolkit (lacking a UI)<\/li>\n<li>ICA ATOM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However &#8211; all had shortcomings. Decided to go with <strong>ArchiveSpace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actually ArchiveSpace is a successor to Archivists&#8217; Toolkit<\/li>\n<li>Support for appropriate standards<\/li>\n<li>All archivist functionality in one place<\/li>\n<li>Web delivered<\/li>\n<li>Open Source<\/li>\n<li>Lyrasis network behind development development<\/li>\n<li>MySQL database<\/li>\n<li>Runs under a container system such as Jetty or Tomcat<\/li>\n<li>Code in JRuby, available on github<\/li>\n<li>Four web apps:\n<ul>\n<li>Public front end<\/li>\n<li>Admin area<\/li>\n<li>Backend (Communicator)<\/li>\n<li>Solr for indexing\/search<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Migration issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All data available from CMSyst<\/li>\n<li>Exported in EAD<\/li>\n<li>Some obstacles getting EAD to map correctly to loaded authorities<\/li>\n<li>Some obstacles getting authorities loaded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ArchiveSpace has functionality to link \u00a0out to\u00a0digital objects &#8211; using LUNA system &#8211; with CSV import of data [not clear which direction data flows here]<\/p>\n<p>ArchiveSpace is popular in US, but Edinburgh the first European institution to take it.<\/p>\n<p>University of Edinburgh Collections has a new web interface\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/collections.ed.ac.uk\">http:\/\/collections.ed.ac.uk<\/a>. ArchiveSpace will be the expresso not archives within this collections portal.\u00a0Archives are surfaced here as Collection Level Descriptions &#8211; 1000s of collections covered.<\/p>\n<p>Implementation has been a good collaborative project.\u00a0Got Curators, archivists, projects and innovations staff and digital developers all involved.
