Too many different books all at once! Children learn to be readers by repeating stories they have heard again and again. I completely agree with immersing children in stories and language they wouldn’t normally meet, but You have to pace it out so the language features are learnt by rote and immersion. Don’t do too much at once!

I hope we aren’t doing too much at once 🙂 This list is actually divided between two children, not one child having all these stories, and all of them have been read more than once, some like ‘snip snap’ everyday for the last two weeks or so, and others like Tabby McTat and Little Red Train being revisited after longer breaks. I think I can say confidently that Bryn (coming up to 4) is pretty immersed in the language, and knows many books and poems by heart – and loves hearing both familiar and new stories.
